On 19thJuly 2019, Horários do Funchal, the public transport company of Funchal – Madeira Island, launched a new public transport line “Linha Eco Cidade”. This new line connects the city’s old town to an area in requalification and tourist and economic expansion, passing also through the Funchal Port Terminal in some periods of the day. This service is aimed at both tourists and residents, and also for the Terminal workers that did not have a public transport connection before.
This service features mini buses that are well prepared to accommodate citizens with disabilities and can accommodate up to two wheelchairs.
With this initiative, Horários do Funchal has the goal to decrease the use of private vehicles in the city centre and promote the use of more sustainable transport modes.
