This measure is based on a two-fold approach to monitor and control emissions: a pilot setup for a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) and a revamp of the SMS emissions alert system for high- polluting vehicles through the creation of an automated Emissions Alert App.
The measure includes the installation of different types of sensors in a specific off-street parking area in the city of Valletta (Hastings Parking) to manage the demand and supply of parking in the city. Valletta Local Council (VLC) was responsible for the management and implementation of the measure, supported by TM and UoM.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the delivery, presentation and discussion of the final draft of the SUMP in the final stakeholder meeting, planned for spring 2020, had to be postponed to 2021. The formal approval of the SUMP is planned to occur in December 2021.
